Official Fellow; Tutor; Director of Studies; College Lecturer in Computer Science; Undergraduate Tutor; Dean of Discipline

Biography

After completing her studies, Luana joined ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ in 2019 as a Bye Fellow and Director of Studies in Computer Science. A year later, in 2020 she became an Official Fellow and College Teaching Officer.

She is currently the Director of Studies for Computer Science at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. Her focus is on undergraduate teaching, with a particular emphasis on Discrete Mathematics and Machine Learning.

Luana’s research in natural language processing (NLP) lies at the intersection of computer science, machine learning and cognitive science. She is interested in automatically constructing meaning representations of natural language expressions. She works on multi-modal semantics (learning representations of word meaning that are connected to the physical world), computational modelling of figurative language and meaning representation in the brain.

Research Interests

  • Natural language processing, with a focus on computational semantics
  • Multimodal semantics, grounding language in vision
  • Attribute-based semantic representations
  • Cognitive processing and semantic representation in the brain

Degrees

  • MPhil in Advanced Computer Science, University of Cambridge
  • BSc in Computer Science, University of Leicester
