Gavin Stevenson is the Director of Student Development and Deputy Senior Tutor at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. In the former role, Gavin oversees and delivers the Gateway Programme, ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ’ personal, academic, and career development programme. In the latter role, Gavin supports the delivery of undergraduate student welfare at the College and Coordinates College Teaching and Learning activities for the Fellowship. Gavin also supervises undergraduate students in sociology and social theory in the College.

He has been a Fellow since 2018, when he joined as an Early Career Research Fellow. He completed his PhD in Sociology in 2021 at the University of Cambridge. His PhD was an exploration of the embodied experiences of feeling offended amongst students at the University of Cambridge.

In his various roles within the College, Gavin is focused on delivering support for students in both an academic and pastoral capacity. Through the delivery of the Gateway Programme, and in work overseeing and supporting the tutorial system, he aims to ensure students are effectively supported to make the most out of their time at the College and the University more broadly. Gavin is also passionate about inclusive teaching, outreach, and widening participation in higher education and facilitates workshops for a range of audiences on these subjects

Research interests

I research the phenomenology of offence with a particular interest in the Higher Education context as a lens through which to explore the formation and ethics of the self.
